Fannie Mae has reduced its 2024 home sales forecast due to weaker-than-expected spring sales but anticipates a rebound in 2025.

An increase in listings, especially in the Sun Belt, and a cooling economy that might lead to lower mortgage rates, are expected to boost future sales.

Economists note that the gradual economic slowdown and cooling inflation could prompt the Federal Reserve to cut rates, further aiding the housing market.

Current home sales remain sluggish due to affordability issues despite rising listings.

Fannie Mae forecasts a slight growth in home sales for 2024, with a significant increase anticipated in 2025 as mortgage rates decline.

This trend is expected to bolster both purchase and refinancing mortgage volumes over the next two years.
